Money Heist is a Spanish professional heist crime drama series that Alex Pina created, captivating the viewers’ attention. The series follows two meticulously planned heists carried out by Professor Alvaro Morte, one at the Bank of Spain and the other at the Royal Mint of Spain.

Our favorite part must be the narrative, which is in a real-time-like fashion but simultaneously relies on flashbacks, jumps in time, hidden character motives, and a narrator you can’t rely on for the complexity of it.

If we managed to intrigue you with this short resume, watch the series, and if you like it, come back to find out what else you can watch!

Class (2023)

This series came out earlier this year and is also extremely interesting to watch. Although it takes place in New Delhi, India, Elite is undoubtedly an inspiration. The difference in the country where this series takes place is extremely important because the characters face many new challenges that are related to race, religion, and sexual orientation. The story here is like in “Elite,” where three teenagers are accepted to an elite local university thanks to good grades and scholarships. In this series, rumors and the dark secrets of some of the characters lead to the murder of their classmates.

Wentworth (2013)

Wentworth is an Australian drama series with eight seasons that will keep you glued to the screen. The first four seasons tell the story of a woman named Bea Smith, who was accused of trying to murder her husband. Bea is now in the Wentworth prison, serving her sentence. Separated from her daughter and wondering if there is any point in continuing this life, Bea must face the challenges of prison life as well as her rise in the inmate-constructed hierarchy. In the fifth season of the series, the story changes course, with the focus now on the emotions and experiences of the characters. “Wentworth” is more than a crime drama series because here, viewers can see what happens behind bars. If you are a fan of crime series, we recommend you watch Wentworth. Be prepared to get goosebumps and face the harsh reality of life in prison.

Prison Break (2005)

Prison Break

That series is certainly a classic and a must-watch! The series tells a story about a man called Lincoln Burrows, who is sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, and his brother, who is trying to save him. Lincoln’s brother is a first-rate structural engineer. In addition to saving Lincoln’s life, he goes to the prison he is in. The idea is for the two of them to escape from prison by freeing themselves in a way that Lincoln’s brother had planned. There’s everything you need in this series: crime, love, real human emotions, and much more! Watch and find out!

Breaking Bad (2008)

Breaking Bad

When we talk about shows like Money Heist, Netflix has a lot of options to offer. Breaking Bad is an intriguing series that won the hearts of its fans from the first watch. Bryan Cranston is one of my favorite actors, and his performance in Breaking Bad is spectacular. The series’ concept is extremely interesting because, in the end, the protagonist turns out to be the antagonist. This was the director’s original idea, Vince Gilligan, as he felt that when the plot in a series does not change, it can bore the audience. This series has five seasons and a movie, and I don’t want to give anything away because it’s worth watching and seeing for yourself how good it is.

Your Honor (2020)

shows on netflix like money heist

It’s another one of my favorite series I have watched more than five times. The Israeli television show Kvodo served as inspiration for the series. In Your Honor, Bryan Cranston takes on the role of Michael Desiato, a respected New Orleans judge. His son Adam accidentally kills another teenager in a hit-and-run, and it turns both of their lives upside down. Michael encourages his son to turn himself in but quickly changes his mind when he discovers that the boy whom his son hit was the son of a crime boss. Michael makes the difficult decision to defend his son, which leads to fatal consequences for him and his career as a judge. Unfortunately, this series only has two seasons, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good. If you like crime series, I guarantee this one here is very well done, intriguing, and must-watch.

Peaky Blinders (2013)

Peaky Blinders

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, there’s no way you haven’t heard of this series. Peaky Blinders takes place in the 1920s, and it tells the story of a street gang famous for sewing blades on the peaks of their hats. The most interesting character for the audience is the gang’s boss, Tommy Shelby, known for his fierce temper. Tommy aspires to be more than just the boss of a street gang. When a shipment of weapons vanishes from an arms factory, he sees a chance to elevate himself. With rival gangs, Communist revolutionaries, and IRA Fenians converging on Small Heath to claim the firearms, Winston Churchill sends an unyielding police chief from Belfast to restore order in the growingly chaotic city and retrieve the missing guns. It’s one of the shows like Money Heist on Netflix you need to watch right now!

Who Killed Sara? (2021)

series like money heist

This is an outstanding Mexican crime mystery TV series that I enjoyed watching. If you are a fan of Money Heist, you sure will love this one too. The storyline revolves around Álex Guzmán, who was unjustly imprisoned for 18 years for a crime he didn’t commit. He is determined to uncover the truth behind his sister’s murder. His quest for justice leads him to seek revenge against the Lazcano family, the ones responsible for his suffering. People’s everyday problems are discussed here, which makes the series easy to understand and interesting to watch. This series has three seasons, and the final one aired last year. If you need more shows like Money Heist, look no further.

Locked Up (2015)

locked up

Locked Up, or Vis A Vis, tells the story of both the prisoners and the employees at an all-women prison. It’s one of the shows on this list with the most in common with Money Heist, not so much in script as in design. Macarena Ferreiro Molina falls in love with her boss and commits a crime on his behalf. She is accused of a few tax crimes and is consequently imprisoned at the Cruz del Sur Prison as a precautionary measure. The bail that has to be paid is too much for her family, so they will have to come up with a plan to save their beloved daughter. In prison, Macarena learns that to avoid the seven-year sentence she will likely face if convicted, she must become a whole new person. The series traces the way prison changes a person, so if you’re a fan of that type of series, I definitely recommend you to watch it.

White Lines (2020)

white lines

Sadly, this show was cancelled with only one season, but I’m giving it the first place because I like it a lot, and I think that if you are a Money Heist fan like I am, you will love it as well. Lex Pina is the creator of the British-Spanish crime series White Lines. It revolves around Zoe Walker and her brother Axel, who was found dead 20 years after he went missing. Zoe is sure her brother has been murdered, but the police don’t want to investigate the case. She is frustrated, so she goes to Ibiza, where her brother was working before he went missing, to find the answers herself. This series is captivating, and you certainly won’t be able to put it down. The story is very good, and it’s worth watching. And it’s one of the shows like Casa de Papel (Money Heist) we really liked.

I hope this list has helped you find a new favorite series. We’d love for you to share what you think of these series if you’ve seen them and what you expect if you plan to watch them.
